Five-Point Programmatic Thrust
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated is dedicated to the ideals of Sisterhood, Scholarship and Public Service. In accordance with these ideals, the Sorority has established a long and glorious history of educational, cultural, political, and social service in the public's interest. To further its public service goals, Delta operates under the following Five Point Programmatic Thrust:

Economic DevelopmentPromotes financial literacy, homeownership, and entrepreneurship Annual forums with speakers and resources to promote homeownership, and entrepreneurship Participates with dfree®,which helps members and communities employ strategies to reduce debt Hosts speakers on investment opportunities

Educational DevelopmentPromotes academic excellence $10,000 in scholarships are awarded annually to graduating public high school seniors continuing their post-secondary education Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy for females, 11-14 years Delta Gems, for at-risk adolescent girls, 14-18 years old E.M.B.O.D.I. (Empowering Males to Build Opportunities for Developing Independence) designed for young males Sponsored Dr. Ron Clark of the Ron Clark Academy for a one-day workshop for educators Sponsored Author’s Corner for emerging and established writers

International Awareness & InvolvementPromotes awareness of international history, issues, people, and cultural experiences Support for Samaritan’s Purse for worldwide emergency aid to victims of floods, tornadoes, & hurricanes Support for Delta projects in South Africa, Eswatini (formerly Swaziland), Durban, and Haiti. Support for International Aids Day Sponsored the International Prince and Princess Pageant

Physical & Mental HealthPromotes community and individual wellness through focused prevention including fitness, healthy eating, and access to affordable healthcare Health Fairs held throughout the community Free Aids testing clinic and resources provided to college students and the community Yoga/Zumba sessions held in person and virtually Support for March of Dimes book project for hospital Newborn Intensive Care Units (NICU) Provides Comfort/Cuddle Backpacks to Social Service Agencies for children five to 11 in emergency foster care Donated N-95 masks for first responders Recipient of the South Atlantic Region “22 Points of Light” Award in recognition of exemplary programs during 2021-22

Political Awareness & InvolvementAdvocates improving the quality of life through active participation in the community and public service Voter education, registration and resources Support for adequate education funding on the state and local levels Participation in the annual Delta Days at the Virginia General Assembly, Delta Days in the Nation’s Capital, and Delta Days at the United Nations
